Corvette Grand Sport 004, the third blue metallic Mecom Racing Team car, had a white stripe on the hood and had the black outline around the number targets.
Mecom entered all three cars in the Governor's Cup Race on Friday. Valuable lessons had been learned from overheating problems earlier in the week and so all three cars were fitted with oil coolers on the rear deck.
Roger Penske drove the #50 car to a very respectable third place in the Governor's Trophy Race, on the same lap as race winner A.J. Foyt in the Mecom Team Scarab. Pabst scored a fourth and Thompson took sixth overall. The three Grand Sports had finished well while their Shelby Cobra adversaries were well back in the standings.
