1964-65 Exoto Cobra Daytona

1964 Le Mans 24 Hours, driven by Amon/Neerpasch, "The Prototype"

This model is an authentic reproduction of chassis CSX 2287; the very first prototype Cobra Daytona Coupe. The one and only coupe that was built entirely at the Shelby American race shop in Venice, California. It enjoys an extensive race history; competing at Daytona, Sebring, Reims, Spa Francorchamps, Oulton Park TT, and Tour de France. This venerable coupe ended its racing career by setting 25 USAC/FIA world records at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. It was driven by Dave MacDonald, Bob Holbert, Jo Schlesser, Phil Hill, Jochen Neerpasch, Innes Ireland, Andre Simon, Maurice Dupeyron, Bob Johnson, Tom Payne, Craig Breedlove, Bobby Tatroe, and Tom Greatorex. Chassis CSX 2287 won the GT race at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 1964 with Dave MacDonald and Bob Holbert at the wheel. The race at Sebring was the first time that a Cobra Daytona Coupe wins the GT III category at an FIA race!

The different roof lines of the two Cobra coupes are evident here. The Amon/Neerpasch entry built in California and the Bondurant/Gurney entry built in Italy.

Our version of chassis CSX 2287, item #RLG18002, presents the car as it raced at Le Mans in June 1964. It was finished in viking blue metallic and had very distinctive white color painted front fenders. The drivers then were Chris Amon and Jochen Neerpasch. They led the GT category until the car was disqualified in the 10th hour for an illegal jump start due to battery and alternator failure.

Bob Bondurant, Chris Amon, Jochen Neerpasch, Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby pose in front of a Cobra coupe during the race preparation in the team garage.
