All three Corvette Grand Sport Coupes raced in the 1963 Nassau Speed Week, entered by Mecom Racing, were painted Cadillac Blue. Each had a different color hood stripe for instant recognition from the pits.
This Grand Sport, chassis 005, was driven in all of the 1963 Nassau Speed Week events by the man who had the most experience driving these cars, Dr. Dick Thompson. Car #80, had a red stripe on the nose and the number targets were outlined in black.
Thompson finished second in the five lap Tourist Trophy GT qualifying race, but failed to make it through the main event due to an overheating differential. External oil coolers were installed on the rear deck to solve this problem and Thompson went on to a 6th place classification in the Governor's Cup and a 4th place finish in the Nassau Trophy races.
